WAL-Betrieb awarded certification confirming it to be a maintenance specialist for small-scale sewage treatment systems.

Lausitz. By consistently implementing its wastewater disposal concept, Wasserverband Lausitz Betriebsführungs GmbH (WAL-Betrieb) is ensuring that the number of households connected to the central sewage network is steadily increasing and that sewage in the region controlled by the Lausitz Water Board is treated in accordance with all rules and regulations. However, connecting homes to the central system is not always the most sensible option especially in rural areas. In such cases, it is necessary to create decentralised sewage treatment solutions and customers have a huge need for qualified consultants and service providers within this field.

And this is where WAL-Betrieb, that runs the operations for the Lausitz Water Board, has concentrated on developing, marketing and maintaining decentralized sewage disposal solutions.

The increasing level of technology used in such small-scale sewage treatment facilities, however, has made it essential that expert quality maintenance work is carried out on such facilities to prevent water supplies becoming contaminated by badly or poorly maintained small-scale sewage treatment systems. It is impossible for the water authorities, and in particular the lower water authorities, to inspect the high number of small-scale sewage treatment facilities in operation as the administrative costs would be too high. For this reason, the respective water authorities have made it obligatory for new small-scale sewage treatment facilities to be maintained regularly by qualified specialist firms.

Assuring the quality of maintenance work carried out on small-scale sewage treatment facilities by approving and certifying specialist businesses is a fundamental instrument for improving water protection measures. WAL-Betrieb has now been awarded certification from the Deutsche Vereinigung für Wasserwirtschaft, Abwasser und Abfall / DWA (German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste) approving it as a maintenance specialist for small-scale sewage treatment facilities. "This certification further confirms our expertise in handling all matters concerning decentralized disposal," commented Marten Eger, managing director of WAL-Betrieb.
