REMONDIS opens state-of-the-art WEEE dismantling centre

Poland fulfils European standards

Łodź /Lünen. REMONDIS has built an exemplary centre for dismantling waste electrical and electronic equipment in the Polish city of ?od? involving a total investment of four million euros. Once the final stage has been completed, this plant, which has now been put into operation and has a workforce of more than 50 employees, will process up to 100,000 tonnes of waste equipment using environmentally friendly technology and, as a result, recover valuable raw materials.

REMONDIS’ new dismantling centre is the most modern of its kind in Poland. It will, therefore, make it easier for the EU Directive on treating waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) to be implemented across the country. The aim of this directive is for WEEE to be recycled in a more eco-friendly manner and this is a great challenge for the Polish economy. Producers and distributors of fridges, televisions and other domestic appliances are now responsible for the dismantling of their waste equipment. Valuable materials such as copper, aluminium and plastic can then be recovered and fed back into the economic cycle, thus conserving natural resources. REMONDIS offers its national and international customers from the electrical/electronic equipment branch a full range of services from collecting the waste, to processing and sorting it to marketing the raw materials.

Faced with this directive, many producers and recovery organisations have already chosen the Polish company, REMONDIS Electrorecycling Sp. z o.o., to be its partner thus ensuring that raw materials are professionally recovered and that their waste equipment is disposed of in an eco-friendly manner. As is the case in Germany, people living in Poland are no longer allowed to dispose of their WEEE in their household bins. They can hand in their waste equipment free of charge to take-back centres or have it collected by special waste collection vehicles.
