Press Release.

Operations begin at EVZA Staßfurt.

Staßfurt. Today, the EVZA thermal waste treatment and recycling plant in Staßfurt (Saxony-Anhalt, Germany) was officially put into operation in the presence of the Minister of Employment and Economic Affairs for the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, Dr Reiner Haseloff, and the Polish Ambassador, Dr Marek Prawda, as well as many other guests from the world of politics and business.
REMONDIS, the owner of EVZA, has invested around 150 million euros in this new grate furnace plant with its two incineration lines and created around 60 new jobs. Approx. 380,000t of household, commercial and industrial waste with a calorific value of 6,000 - 15,000 kJ/kg can now be recycled each year and be processed into energy. The plant has been designed so that waste can be delivered by road as well as by rail, the more eco-friendly alternative.
This state-of-the art plant is considerably more efficient than other incineration units: depending on the mode of operation, the EVZA plant's efficiency varies between 60 and 80%. Electricity output lies at up to 165,000 MWh/a and the output of process steam up to 365,000 MWh/a.
REMONDIS is now supplying the neighbouring soda works with the energy generated by the incineration process in Staßfurt. Thanks to this increased supply of steam from EVZA, the soda works are now able to run new facilities to produce heavy soda ash, which were also put into operation today. This will mean that the amount of heavy soda ash produced by the works will increase by around 100,000t a year. Heavy and fine soda ash is used as a base material by the glass industry and chemical industry as well as for the production of washing powder.
