Into the future with a private partner

The City and District of Toszek begins its work with REMONDIS Aqua

Toszek/Lünen. The Polish City and District of Toszek will, in the future, be working together with REMONDIS Aqua in the areas of water supply, wastewater treatment and the provision of general municipal tasks.

REMONDIS AG & Co. KG is, via its subsidiary REMONDIS Sp. z o.o., market leader within the Polish water and recycling sector. Just under a year ago, the city council of Toszek in the south of Poland decided to sell 50 percent of its shares in its company Zaklad Gospodarki Komunalnej i Mieszkaniowej in Toszek (ZGKiM in Toszek Sp. z o.o.). Following a public tender procedure, the town and district of Toszek chose REMONDIS Aqua to be its strategic branch investor within the water management sector. The contract has been signed by the mayor of the City of Toszek, Jacek Zarzycki, as well as by Roland Ruscheweyh and Helena Dytkiewicz, both from REMONDIS Aqua Sp. z o.o.. The beginning of the cooperation work is being officially celebrated on 25th May at 12.00 at Toszek Castle and approx. 120 guests have been invited to attend including representatives of the council and local companies. Prof. Jerzy Buzek, MEP, shall also be attending the event as well as the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, Janusz Moszynski.

The town and district of Toszek lies fifty kilometres west of Katowice in the Silesian Voivodeship and has around 10,000 inhabitants. One of the reasons for selling off a part of the municipal business in Toszek is the need for investments to renew the existing infrastructure. A number of waterworks, drinking water pipes and sewer canals must be renewed. The necessary investments can now be carried out by ZGKiM in Toszek together with REMONDIS' support. Furthermore, the City and District of Toszek will be able to use the know-how and many years of experience of the REMONDIS Group.

ZGKiM Sp. z o.o. in Toszek is responsible for supplying drinking water, treating wastewater, administering the water and sewer pipeline networks, providing services for the city in summer and winter, cleaning the roads, maintaining green areas as well as managing municipal properties. ZGKiM in Toszek Sp. z o.o. employs 43 people.

For REMONDIS Aqua, this share in ZGKiM in Toszek Sp. z o.o. means it now has a foothold in the water supply and wastewater treatment sectors in the Silesian region. REMONDIS Aqua believes that there are good opportunities for it to expand here and win other contracts in this region. Up to now, just under 1,900 households and around 200 companies from the city and district of Toszek as well as a number from the district of Rudziniec have been supplied with drinking water (300,000 m3) each year. ZGKiM in Toszek Sp. z o.o. currently has 5 drinking water treatment plants. REMONDIS Aqua will be jointly responsible for maintaining the 68 kilometres of drinking water pipes and 17.4 kilometres of sewage pipes as well as for operating the new sewage treatment plant which is due to go into operation at the end of June this year.
