Preparing the way for rapid progress.

REMONDIS in New Zealand.

We empty 78,000 bins for Auckland’s public utility company and are laying the foundations for entering the industrial recycling sector.

The signs are pointing to change: many public utility companies in New Zealand are planning to adapt their waste management activities to meet modern recycling standards. This means: more initiatives for processing and recycling materials as well as moving away from the conventional method of collecting waste in bags to introducing up-to-date systems using bins. Being an experienced partner, REMONDIS is able to provide sustainable support for these future-oriented plans. We have also been active in New Zealand since the end of 2009.

Services for councils and companies

REMONDIS’ subsidiary, Metrowaste, is based in Avondale on the New Zealand North Island. Besides carrying out waste collection services, it also operates several transfer centres and takes over waste management tasks at all kinds of events. The majority of its clients are local councils – around 60 percent of its services are carried out for the public sector. But many commercial and industrial businesses also rely on Metrowaste.

The separate collection of recyclables is still in its infancy in New Zealand. For many inhabitants, therefore, throwing away glass, paper and plastics into separate bins is still an unknown territory.

A strong performance

REMONDIS New Zealand is strengthening the modern water and environmental service branch. An ever increasing number of local authorities and businesses are relying on future-oriented services.

Sustainable development

Each year, we collect 36,000 tonnes of residual and recyclable municipal waste in New Zealand as well as 11,000 tonnes of commercial and industrial waste.
